DHH renal unit opened in 1998 with 6 stations. there are currently 22 stations operating twice daily 6 days a week. in june 2005 we commenced a twilight shift between 6.30 pm and 12 midnight 3 times a week. we currently have 4 patients on this shift which will expand as needed to a maximum of 22 patients. we currently have 90 patients on haemodialysis. we plan to extend to 30 stations by the mid 2006. in january 04 we appointed a peritoneal dialysis sister. fiona is responsible for identifying patients who desire and are suitable for peritoneal dialysis, training these patients in their own home and monitoring their care whist on PD. there are currently 19 patients on PD. in the last year we set up a patient focus groupwhich meets once monthly and has successfully held an open "information" meeting in Armagh City Hotel last December. the unit is currently working towards charter mark, an accreditation for excellent service provision.
